The United States incarcerates more of it’s citizens than any other country on Earth. The US has 5% of the world’s population, yet it has 25% of the world’s prison population. The cost of housing all of these prisoners is a staggering 80 Billion dollars yearly. American politicians and prison officials went to Germany to learn about their system–which costs about half of the American system and produces far better results…in fact, the German recidivism rate is only half of that in the US!
How is this possible? The German system uses a completely different mindset regarding prisoners and prisons. The differences will surprise you…and leave you wondering what went wrong in the United States…
