I was truly moved by brother Jacob’s testimony (see: “The Worst of Us, by Jacob Curie). I have a very similar one myself. His story details in many ways the horrors of this despicable monster named heroin. The power of his testimony is in its truth. This is a real life look at the devastation this addiction causes and what lives it ruins. Families torn apart, pain and suffering, loss, hurt, shame, guilt, worthlessness, and utter despair to name a few of its benefits. Anyone who has gotten into bed with this foe knows intimately it’s control and seemingly unbreakable grip. So I thank Jacob for taking the time to write his testimony so that someone may be spared from it all.
Thankfully there is hope for those who are being seduced by this monster. Honestly, I have never met anyone who said that they wanted to be a drug addict or alcoholic. This is in nobody’s dreams or goals in life. Yet there are many under the lie of its deception that think that this is what they want or need to feel good or cope with the circumstances of their life. Some wish to escape so-called reality, but the place of refuge is a prison of torture and torment. If Jacob or myself were aware of and truly believed the truth about heroin, or for that matter any drugs or alcohol abuse, could it have changed our course? If we believed this truth about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and trusted it, could we have been spared all the devastation? Could we have been empowered and delivered from all the havoc it has reared in our lives? Would our families and our victims have avoided the suffering as well? So now as I’m sure Jacob would agree, the point of this testimony is to prevent anyone from falling into this trap, and to rescue those bound by it.
Those of us who know the Lord Jesus Christ understand that this is most definitely a spiritual battle. This monster of addiction has come only to wreak havoc, tearing up families, and destroying lives. It only desires to steal, kill, and destroy whoever it will. But the real truth is that Jesus Christ came to set us free. I know that may sound like pie in the sky, too good to be true, too easy, or even useless – just something pious to say with no real meaning or power. However, I’m here to tell you, as a full-blown addict of the worst kind for over twenty years, that Jesus Christ has set me free from it all. He is the way, the truth, and the life that God has intended for us. He is your healer and deliverer, the real and lasting way of escape to freedom by the truth of the Gospel, if only you can believe and begin to learn how to trust Him.
So, for sure you must agree that you cannot go at this alone. You are not stronger than the spiritual forces of this wicked addiction. Many have tried, myself included, but to no avail. You may have temporary glimpses of relief, but they are not lasting.
My friend, whoever you are, I beg of you to call out to Jesus right now for help. Maybe you need to go to places like rehab or have a sponsor or some other thing, and that’s all good. But honestly, in the end, we are all broken people living in a broken world. Broken people cannot cure broken people. Our help comes from above. Real lasting help comes from God who is able and willing, and already demonstrating his love to you in sending His only begotten Son into the world for you. It’s true, its’ real, and it’s all given as a gift. You can freely receive your deliverance in Christ. By grace through faith in his death, burial, and resurrection on your behalf, you can begin a brand-new life with all of heaven’s benefits here on earth. It’s true – God cannot lie. Do you want it? Ask and you shall receive.
My friend, no matter who you are, no matter your addiction, condition, social status, age, race, gender, or any other thing, right now Jesus is reaching out to you. If you were to listen, He’s saying:
“I love you, I always have, and I always will. I know everything about you, and I love you, and I’m here for you. I know your pain and suffering, all your heartache and misery. I know what it’s like. Just simply come to me right now as you are. I accept you. You have value and worth. You are unique and precious. I paid the price for you to be free and experience life to the fullest. I will comfort you and give you rest. My peace will be yours and you will be able to just breath again and recover your life. I am your healing and deliverance.”
I hope and pray that you will take heed and hear Him. I finally did, and it was the best decision I ever made. If you are reading this, it is not too late. You can as well. God’s arms are wide open and waiting for you to run in and be safe. Don’t wait, do it now.
