Do you ever feel like there’s more to life than the things this world offers? Have you ever looked around yourself and all that you have and thought, is this it, is this all that life is about? It’s like having an inborn core sense telling you that there’s more to life. However, you wind up suppressing this inner witness, attempting to fill the void with something familiar and convenient. Something that makes you feel good momentarily, and blocking the unfulfillment deep within, just to get by. Day after day the same old people, places, and things. It’s the same problems, worries, and cares with no real end in sight.
From time to time you may get glimpses of hope, but as quickly as they come they go. The highs are high and the lows are low, so you settle for the routine and mundane cycle of just existing in between them. Therefore, all the while you are mostly using a phony smile and a hollow laugh that’s required to seem content among others. Meanwhile you’ll try anything you can to satisfy the emptiness, but nothing has lasting results, because whatever it may be, you are always left needing more.
With this awareness of something missing, life can be hard. However, there are joyous occasions such as births, weddings, successes, and celebrations. But joy is often shrouded in pain and futility because birth gets linked with death, weddings with divorce, success with failure, and celebrations with disappointments. It’s an imperfect world and we are all imperfect people mostly pretending to be OK.
So, if you are like me, you fit into this mold. Owning up to this realization and facing up to it head-on puts you in the position of receiving the fulfillment our heart longs for. But where do we find it and how do we get it? For me, no amount of stuff could ever complete me. I tried for forty years, day and night, as much as I could, all to no avail.
The things I thought would help this pursuit of satisfaction keep me from the one thing I later found I needed all along: to reunite with God. For example, if a car has a defect, the car manufacturer issues the recall. Who knows a building better than the builder? Both the car and the building are designed by their maker to function properly in their own specific way. So it is with you, my friend. You are designed and crafted by the very hands of God. He is your builder and maker. He made you in be a very specific way, united together with Him.
This is why we are unfulfilled without Him. Mankind’s problem is that we have been separated from God by sin. So now you know that this is the very reason why Jesus came into this world – to take away sin by the sacrifice of Himself on the cross. He took away our sin in order to reunite us back to God. He was not willing to leave us broken and unfulfilled because of his great love for us. John 3:16 says “for God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes I Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Now we have the question of where do we find the fulfillment our hearts long for? The answer and the solution is Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. How do we get it? We are saved by grace through faith in believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose from the grave – period. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s Jesus and Jesus alone. It’s not what you can do, but rather what Jesus has done. You cannot save yourself and you cannot fulfill yourself.
I believed this good news and was saved. Now as I learn and grow, renewing my mind to God’s truth in the Bible, I receive value, meaning, and purpose. My heart is fulfilled because I have reunited with my maker and am united together with Him forever. I am now completely satisfied through and through, resting with my God and Father.
God is speaking to you today, shouting from the rooftops, saying “I am here for you,” as demonstrated by the cross of His son Jesus Christ. Believe with your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sin and rose from the grave. Then study the Bible and recover your life. Come home to God.
